Coming for your first acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine consultation can feel unfamiliar, so here’s exactly what to expect, from finding the clinic to settling into the treatment room. If anything below isn’t clear, just call or text me on 07954 139 668 beforehand and I’ll talk you through it.
Arriving
The Jade Centre is tucked away on a quiet side street in Chapel Allerton, at 11 Blake Grove, Leeds LS7 3NQ, easy to find and well signposted. There’s on-street parking nearby, and the clinic is fully accessible, with everything on the ground floor and no steps to navigate.
Please aim to arrive on time rather than early. I’ll usually still be finishing my previous client’s session right up until a few minutes before your appointment, so there’s nowhere to wait if you arrive well ahead of time. On time is perfect; there’s no need to rush, and no benefit to arriving early.
If You’re Running Late
If you’re held up, please call or text me on 07954 139 668 as soon as you know. Appointments are booked one to one, so arriving late may mean a shorter session, to protect the time booked by the person after you.
If you need to cancel or rearrange, I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice. With less notice, 50% of the fee is payable if I’m able to fill the appointment slot, or the full fee if I’m not. This isn’t about being strict, it simply keeps appointments fair and available for everyone.
What to Wear
Wear something comfortable that you can move easily in. Acupuncture points are often on the lower arms and legs, so sleeves and trouser legs that roll up past the elbow and knee make things straightforward. There’s usually no need to undress. If a particular area needs more access, I’ll explain clearly what’s needed, and you’ll always have privacy to adjust your clothing yourself.
Eating Beforehand
Try to eat something light in the couple of hours before your appointment. Treatment on a completely empty stomach can occasionally leave you feeling a little lightheaded, and a very heavy meal beforehand isn’t ideal either. A light snack or small meal is usually about right, and it’s fine to bring water with you.
Getting In
When you arrive, please ring the doorbell and I’ll come to let you in. As I may still be finishing a previous appointment, I’ll come to the door as soon as I’m free, usually within a few minutes.
Facilities
There’s a toilet on the ground floor, which you’re welcome to use before or after your treatment.
The Waiting Area
Once you’re in, you’ll find a tidy, peaceful waiting room designed to help you settle before treatment begins. I always come and greet you personally. There’s no rushing and no clipboard-tapping, just a gentle pace from the moment you arrive.
Your Privacy
The Jade Centre is a one-to-one clinic. Appointments are never rushed or shared, and everything you tell me stays between us. Your records are kept securely and confidentially, in line with data protection law (ICO registration ZB339178), and are never shared without your consent.
Some of the questions I ask, about sleep, digestion, or your cycle, for example, can feel more personal than a typical GP visit. They’re asked because they genuinely help build an accurate picture of how your body is functioning, not out of idle curiosity. You’re welcome to speak openly; nothing you share will be judged, and it’s treated with the same professional confidentiality you’d expect from any healthcare appointment.
